Horses change lives. They give our young people confidence and self esteem. They provide peace and tranquility to troubled souls, they give us hope.

Equine Assisted Therapy

What is Equine Assisted Therapy?

A therapeutic environment is created by the facilitator using the horse as a tool to provide therapy and teaching. This is done working through problems and issues on the ground with the horse that they can relate into real life situations.

Horses have the unique ability to sense emotions and can interpret reactions, this can give us as humans a chance to grow and learn about ourselves.

Horses are so attuned to us they can read our intentions, after all, their very existence depends on it! They are able to read the intention of a prey animal to decide if they are in danger and need to get out of there quickly. The horse will mirror the person they are working with and offer them very raw and honest feedback. This is because a horse only lives in the present moment and makes no judgements.

What to expect?

In the beginning the session will be focused on helping you overcome any uneasiness and to gain some horsemanship skills. Horses are naturally gentle and calm creatures who respond to human behaviour and will mirror the person they are working with. As the sessions continue the therapist will give you specific tasks or obstacles to overcome to help you discover more about yourself, develop new ways of thinking and change any negative behaviours.

Testimonials

We contacted Lucy a year ago, to work with our autistic son who was struggling with his mental health and self confidence. Lucy worked with him, with Echo and a range of activities including grooming and horsemanship.

He really opened up and we saw fantastic results straight away. He developed a strong relationship with Lucy and trusted her with his problems. I cannot recommend the No Reins service enough.
